The original Ayam Decanter, designed by 11th generation Maximilian J. Riedel in 2016, was inspired by and named after the rare breed of Indonesian hen. This innovative and functional decanter has a ‘double decanting’ function that allows younger wines to vigorously aerate thanks to an air pocket created by the design. The three new pieces offer two additional features: a whimsical fade of colour through the design, and a new size that is suitable for either a single bottle or magnum of wine.
The decanter’s playful shape is accentuated by either Grigio (grey), Rosa (pink), or Menta (green) colour, achieved by introducing coloured crystal into the molten glass before the decanter has been formed. 10th generation Georg J. Riedel came up with these beautiful three colour variations, which were first applied to the Amadeo decanters in 2019.
As a RIEDEL hallmark, the new Ayam Decanters marry aesthetic with high functionality. They are perfectly sized for either 750ml or 1500ml of wine, ideal for small dinners or larger groups. Formed freely by hand, the decanter features a wide mouth for both receiving and pouring wine, opening into a wider base to allow the free flow of air exchange with the wine. A tapered and curled tip adds a second level of functionality to the Ayam, acting as an elegant handle. At 312mm tall, they are a striking and unique centrepiece for the table.
The RIEDEL Ayam Decanters are produced in high-quality crystal glass is handmade at the RIEDEL factory in Kufstein, Austria. They can be purchased for RRP AU$600 and will be available from riedel.com and all good homewares retailers.
