DOLCE AND GABBANA SYDNEY FLAGSHIP OPENS

29 Aug 2023

Dolce & Gabbana is writing a new chapter of its history with the opening of their first flagship store in Sydney, Australia.

The new boutique, situated inside the iconic Sydney MLC Centre tower, part of the city’s skyline since the 70s, presents itself as an elegant glass trove with a contemporary style intrinsic with the brand’s identity, in a winning encounter between tradition and innovation.

This special project was born from the latest creative collaboration between Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana and Eric Carlson, with his award-winning Parisian architecture studio Carbondale.

The building was conceived as a towering super-light glass volume, allowing solar light to illuminate the spaces and create an unprecedented stage. The light transparency of the material used, offers the city a view of the Collection, hosted in special polished Redgum wood displays finished with precious white onyx, which alternate along the profile of the extensive glass windows.

Two large volumes intersect within the boutique, one with sinuous forms, the other more squared-off, conferring dynamicity to the large spaces, which reach over 7 meters in height. Two concave apses, recalling chapels and sculpted in yellow gold and yellow Siena Italian marble, become the scenic backdrops for the Collections, creating a peculiar effect balancing fashion, history and architecture. In contrast with these open and luminous volumes, the boutique is anchored by a black basalt central body, a material that heavily recalls Sicily, a source of inspiration for Dolce & Gabbana since forever. Juxtaposing these contemporary geometries is a refined selection of original Italian baroque furniture from the XVIII century: mirrors, tables, consoles and portals.

Inside the monumental space of the store is also an exclusive mezzanine that connects to the ground floor through a sculptural volcanic rock staircase. The intimate space is veiled by an architectural curtain made of vertical tubes coated with white veneer. Inside, it is finished with precious silk and velvet gold damask textiles and marble intarsia floors: the perfect setting for visitors who want to be charmed by Dolce & Gabbana’s most special pieces.

The boutique offers the Men’s and Women’s Ready to Wear and Accessories Collections.
