‘The Tuna Show’ by Izakaya Tori x Kuon Omakase, Presented by The Feast Hyde Park

27 May 2022

Overlooking stunning Hyde Park, The Sheraton Grand Sydney will welcome Dennis Oh of Izakaya Tori and Fukada San of the highly coveted Kuon Omakase to take the reins for two unforgettable Feasts. Launching Friday June 10, the duo will host ‘The Tuna Show’ presented by The Feast - a traditional ‘Live Tuna Cutting Show’, auction and interactive Japanese live seafood buffet. Dennis and Fukada, the two close friends and culinary masters, will slice up a whole line-caught Tasmanian Blue Fin Tuna, flown in the morning of the event.

Known as Maguro Kaitai - this unique premium event will run for two days only - Friday 10 June and Friday 17 June from 12pm at The Feast, one of Sydney’s most sought-after fresh seafood restaurant buffets.

To kick off the experience, guests will enjoy a Japanese inspired cocktail to the captivating sounds of live musicians in the stunning atrium Conservatory Bar before being greeted by a traditional saké welcoming ceremony - Kagami Buraki - as they enter The Feast Restaurant.
In preparation for the carving, chef Hideaki Fukada will take to the stage and demonstrate the same knife skills he employs at the renowned Kuon Omakase. As he carves, Fukada San will share with guests the history, significance and the process behind this art form. Once the Otoro, the melt in your mouth belly portion of the tuna, has been removed, the traditional tuna auction will begin! Attendees will be able to bid and purchase cuts of the highest quality tuna, with one lucky bidder having the chance to enjoy the coveted piece of Otoro.

“Otoro season is a very bustling time for Japanese chefs and we are very excited to share this once in a lifetime experience in Australia at The Sheraton Grand Sydney with a 60kg + Tuna flown in directly from our friend Mitsu San at Musumeci Seafood, Tasmania The beauty of such high quality, respected fish is that each bite is fresh and the flavours are balanced. This is the beauty of masterful Japanese cuisines” - Dennis Oh, Izakaya Tori

After the show, guests can enjoy a live seafood bar and interact with the two chefs as they prepare even more delicious food. The special menu will be curated in collaboration with Dennis and Fukada San with fresh Tuna from the show and Izakaya Tori - Wagyu yakitori, Chawanmushi w/ Truffle and Mentaiko Butter, fresh Sydney Rock Oysters and fresh lobster. Followed by an impressive presentation of Japanese inspired dessert and traditional patisserie.

Included in the experience menu - crispy rice lagers and smooth sake fast tracked from Japan and more-ish paired wines. The curated sake offering will be on pour with high-end bottles and carafes available for purchase. An impressive, newly launched cocktail menu by Alex Del Conte of The Conservatory Bar will quench the most discerning of thirsts, or guests can opt to peruse the impressive champagne and wine cellar on the day.

Krister Svensson, General Manager at Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park said, “We're thrilled to welcome guests to experience a truly unique and luxurious session of indulgence at The Feast.
