Australian Fashion Week is entering a new era. On 20 February 2026, the Australian Fashion Council announced that the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia will become the central hub for Australian Fashion Week 2026, marking a decisive shift in both tone and scale for the country’s premier fashion platform
Taking place from 11 to 15 May 2026, AFW will unfold as a city-wide program anchored at the MCA, with additional activations across Sydney. The move positions fashion directly within one of the city’s most recognisable cultural institutions, overlooking the harbour and framed by contemporary art. Rather than functioning solely as a runway schedule, AFW 2026 has been conceived as a broader cultural moment designed to strengthen both the global visibility and commercial momentum of Australian design
The MCA will house a purpose-built runway and presentation environment, along with industry talks, cultural programming, media facilities and curated brand activations. The setting signals an intentional alignment between fashion and contemporary art, reinforcing the creative dialogue that has long shaped both disciplines. The announcement framed the relocation as a defining evolution for the event, reflecting a more open and internationally connected format for the years ahead
AFW 2026 will feature established designers, emerging talent and First Nations creatives, alongside a dedicated graduate runway spotlighting the next generation. Designer talks and industry experiences will extend beyond the catwalk, reinforcing AFW’s role as a national industry platform with tangible commercial outcomes. The event continues under the governance of AFC Fashion Events, a subsidiary established to deliver strengthened leadership and long-term industry impact
Supported by Destination NSW and delivered in partnership with Create NSW, City of Sydney, Afterpay, Canon, DHL, eBay, Hisense, Nivea and 7Bravo, AFW 2026 reflects Sydney’s ongoing positioning as a fashion capital with cultural depth. For Australia’s fashion industry, the relocation is more than a venue change. It signals a recalibration of how fashion engages with the city, with culture and with international audiences. Against the backdrop of contemporary art and the harbour skyline, Australian Fashion Week 2026 is set to present a format that feels expansive, connected and distinctly of its time.
