Le Creuset Celebrates 100 Years of Colour, Craft and Culinary Legacy at the Sydney Opera House

16 May 2025

Few brands have earned a place in both design museums and everyday kitchens. Le Creuset, the French icon of enamelled cast iron, marks its 100th anniversary not only as a cookware innovator, but as a cultural touchstone. On May 15th, the brand commemorated this milestone with a spectacular gala dinner at Sydney’s Bennelong restaurant, set beneath the sails of the Opera House—a location as iconic as the brand itself.

Hosted by Le Creuset Oceania CEO Georgina Garrity and MC’d by culinary personality Melissa Leong, the evening brought together 100 of Australia’s most respected chefs, tastemakers and media figures for a journey through the brand’s rich history. Guests explored a curated exhibition showcasing the evolution of Le Creuset’s designs, from the Coquelle of 1958 to the beloved ‘Mama’ casserole introduced in 1972.

Dinner, plated exclusively on Le Creuset stoneware, was curated by Executive Chef Peter Gilmore and Head Chef Rob Cockerill—both long-time fans of the brand. Highlights included scallop sashimi with Oscietra caviar, wagyu beef fillet with truffle purée, and a final note of ‘Chocolate Velvet’, each dish echoing the elegance and functionality Le Creuset has embodied for a century.

The guest list read like a who’s who of the Australian culinary scene, with appearances by Donna Hay, Guillaume Brahimi, Lennox Hastie, and Danielle Alvarez, among others. Together, they celebrated a brand whose pieces have quietly witnessed family meals, festive occasions, and now, a centennial legacy.

From its founding in Fresnoy-le-Grand in 1925 to its global presence today, Le Creuset has consistently fused tradition with innovation—crafting cookware designed not just to perform, but to last. With over 60 colours in cast iron and nearly 100 in stoneware, its commitment to timeless beauty is as enduring as the memories made around it.

A century later, Le Creuset stands as more than a kitchen essential—it is a timeless companion to life’s most meaningful meals.
